Our School

The Spotted Zebra Learning Center is a contemporary, state of the art, year-round, preschool program. Knowing that the critical time for learning happens between the ages of 3 and 5, the Spotted Zebra Learning Center is designed to meet the needs of all children and truly prepare them for kindergarten and the high learning standards set forth by New York State.

Daily activities are planned to help every child progress naturally, at his/her own rate. Skills are introduced based on a child's development rather than his or her chronological age. As with most children, growth occurs as they explore materials in activities that increasingly challenge them either through structured activities or through play. At the Spotted Zebra Learning Center, this happens everyday.

ImagePicture this! It is the first day of kindergarten! You walk into the classroom with your child radiating an air of confidence. Your quick scan around the room confirms your suspicions - the other parents and children are filled with anxiety and fear - they are unprepared!Unlike these other families, you will long remember this day with pride. Attending the Spotted Zebra Learning Center prepared you and your child for the challenges of kindergarten and made you feel secure in your child's ability to succeed. The Spotted Zebra Learning Center has now made this first day of school an enjoyable experience rather than one to be feared.

Pre & K Programs

Knowing that a quality preschool program leads to school success, classrooms are small and staff highly qualified - a licensed teacher leads each classroom. The Spotted Zebra Learning Center is inclusive of all children and includes programs for preschoolers with disabilities. Thus a Speech and Language Pathologist, Physical Therapist and an Occupational Therapist are on site to assist in the areas of speech and language, fine motor and gross motor skill development for all children.

Kindergarten Program

Research shows that all children benefit from a developmentally, appropriate full-day program. Full-time kindergarten can afford children the academic learning time needed to prepare for the mastery of primary grade reading and math skills. Studies further show that full-time kindergarten contributes to increased school readiness; higher academic achievement; improved school attendance; literacy and language development; social and emotional development; and a reduction in retention and remediation.

  • The Spotted Zebra is a great environment in which pre-schoolers can learn and (most importantly) have fun! Our son Nicholas has learned to understand the world around him and has been introduced to a variety of social skills. During the past year and a half, he has developed an amazing sense of self-confidence. He is inspired daily to think through situations both critically and creatively.

Nicholas learns things he would likely not be exposed to elsewhere. The Spotted Zebra’s teachers and therapists adore all of the kids and give them all the attention, affection and guidance they need to grow as little individuals!

  • This school has been more than I could have ever imagined! The teachers and therapists are the best and all of the staff is so helpful at all times! They have made the transition for our son from a home setting to pre-school so easy for both our son and us despite the tough year our family has had. Everyone there is so caring and loving. I, as a mother, truly feel safe dropping our son there and knowing he is in the best care possible. I don't know how I am ever going to be able to leave and I know our son won’t want to either. He loves the Spotted Zebra and so do we!

  • It is hard for me to put into words our experience at the Spotted Zebra! They have provided our daughter, Ava, a pre-school experience that we did not believe would be possible when we first found out she had Down syndrome. All the teachers and staff have become our second family, providing us as parents with support, encouragement and skills as well as providing Ava the best pre-school education possible....

  • I was introduced to the Spotted Zebra Learning Center when my daughter, Grace, was 2 1/2. When I came to tour the school, Sheri Townsend, the executive director, spent a lot of time answering my questions and just making me feel generally at home. By the time Sheri gave me this tour, I had looked at 19 other schools! Grace is my only child and... well, I was "slightly" overprotective...
